GRAVE Bulgaria Life Insurance EAD is a Bulgarian insurance company operating for 20 years in Bulgaria. Their headquarters, located in the city of Sofia, contacted Acoustic Force to solve the case regarding the improvement of soundproofing between the meeting rooms and the management offices.
The concrete measures we took started with a site visit by our team. We were on site and took the necessary measurements of the sound insulation between the two rooms. After reviewing the data we found that there was speech intelligibility with normal speech and the sound insulation index was less than R'w< 37dB. We enquired with the building managers who provided us with information on the thickness and materials of the partition walls. Despite the acoustic treatment of the room, the reverberation time did not meet the requirements for these volumes, creating an "echo" effect in the halls.
After everything done so far, it was found that the main problems are:
– The sound insulation index of the walls;
– The detail of the wall finish in the curtain wall;
– The detour through the doors of the premises.
Based on the collected data we prepared a detailed report including the measured values and calculations of the sound insulation index of all elements. Finally, we compiled a detailed list of recommendations for specific actions:
1. To improve the wall insulation by installing a ViscoLAM Autoadhesiva soundproofing membrane and an additional layer of plasterboard over the existing wall;
2. A detail was made with MDF boards and microporous rubber to seal the joint between the wall and the curtain wall;
3. Door seals were ordered to be replaced;
4. The final recommended recommendation was to add additional acoustical materials in both halls to improve acoustical comfort and reduce reverberation time within acceptable limits.
Each of the recommendations aims to improve the working environment in the GRAVE Bulgaria office building. Once implemented, a more conducive atmosphere is created for employees, free from concentration-disturbing noise. Unpleasant noise in the work areas is minimized, resulting in higher productivity.
The management of GRAVE Bulgaria strictly complied with all the recommendations, making use of our supervisory services to improve sound insulation and replace the door seals.
Acoustic Force's specialists monitored the implementation of each stage of the project. We were commissioned directly to manufacture the MDF parts. After the measures were implemented, we took measurements which showed that the sound insulation between the rooms had increased by 15dB, meeting the requirements for office spaces, which are in the range of Rw>45dB, and reaching the requirements for residential buildings - Rw>52dB. We have also found that there is now a reduction in audibility between rooms for normal conversations. We are happy to share that the described project is one of our company's pride.
