Mundus Services AD is the largest company in Bulgaria providing integrated facility services in the field of building management and maintenance.
The group has an annual turnover of over 30 million BGN, manages areas exceeding 3 million square meters, and services more than 4,000 sites. Nationwide, it operates through 8 regional offices. The company’s strategy is continuous growth, delivering high-quality services to its clients.
These values and shared strategic vision brought the company to us. They sought our assistance in addressing an issue that had persisted for over four years. The location was Plovdiv’s Mall Plaza, where rooftop HVAC and eco-systems did not meet the mandatory setback distance from neighboring buildings. As a result, they generated noise levels that disrupted the peace and quiet of nearby residents. An additional aggravating factor was the difference in building heights, with the surrounding structures being lower than the roof of Mall Plaza.
The investigation revealed that part of the ductwork systems was disrupting the daily lives of residents in a nearby apartment building located less than 10 meters away. Iterations in the air conditioning system also showed a critical increase in noise levels during higher outdoor temperatures and drier weather conditions. It was concluded that two of the HVAC units needed to be replaced and soundproofed.
Acoustic Force took the necessary actions and measures for noise reduction, including the design and construction of baffle silencers. The design process covered both the fabrication and installation of the silencers, as well as the preparation of a forecast for the expected noise reduction after the implementation of these measures.
After presenting the project and its optimization, our client, Mundus Services AD, decided to entrust us with the task. It is important to note the short deadline we had to meet, made even more challenging by unfavorable weather conditions. Our work coincided with the peak of summer, when high temperatures required maintaining good indoor air circulation by keeping the building’s windows open.
Acoustic Force accepted the challenge and, within just two weeks, manufactured and delivered the baffle silencers, completing their installation in only two days.
The silencers were large in scale, with an opening size of 2.20 x 1.50 m. Everything was delivered and assembled on-site due to restricted access to the roof. We did not have the option to carry out production and installation simultaneously, so each part had to be assembled separately, transported to the opposite end of the roof, and then moved to the exact location where it would be installed.
Installation work was limited to 2 p.m. due to the sheet metal surface reaching temperatures of up to 100°C. As a result, the schedule was adjusted to start at 5:00 a.m. and finish at 4:00 p.m. The first day of installation was dedicated to logistics, with all materials delivered, lifted onto the roof, and prepared for assembly.
The actual installation took place the following day, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Additional reinforcement structures were delivered and installed along with the silencers themselves. During the installation, it was possible to step inside the enclosure and immediately experience the noise reduction effect.
After completing the installation, we measured the achieved results, which showed an even greater improvement than anticipated. The recorded decibel levels were significantly lower than the projected and forecasted noise. The final outcome was a reduction of 10–12 decibels following the installation of the silencers.
Our clients at Mundus Services AD were extremely impressed and satisfied with our work, while the residents of the nearby building could once again enjoy sleeping with their windows open and having access to fresh air.
