Client

Company ERP contacted us by phone with a complaint that confidentiality in the manager's office had been seriously breached. Conversations taking place in the office could be clearly heard in the adjacent rooms - the hallway/reception area where the secretary's workstation is located. This was an inconvenience and compromised the confidentiality of the meetings.

Problem

The main problem stemmed from several sources:

  • Good door soundproofing, which allowed sound waves to pass freely.
  • An unusable air duct that functioned as a sound funnel between rooms.
  • Structural imperfectionssuch as small cracks that facilitated sound propagation.

Problem Specifics

Following a phone call, the client emailed additional information, and we provided initial guidance and catalogues of acoustic panels. We explained that even and correct placement of the panels could alleviate the problem of sound wave propagation. This is important because a well-acoustically treated room reduces echo and chatter, making conversations clearer and easier to perceive. We then arranged for an on-site view to more accurately analyze the situation.</span

Solution

The inspection confirmed our hypotheses - the door and duct were the main sources of the problem.

We proposed several improvements:

  1. Insulate the door by sealing the frame and drop threshold for better sealing.
  2. Filling the air duct with acoustic wool and lining it with soundproofing panels.
  3. Crack repair including the complete service - plastering and painting
  4. Additional acoustic treatment - we developed three options for the placement of the acoustic panels, each of which was analyzed programmatically. For better visualization, we prepared 3D renderings for the client to choose the most appropriate solution.
  5. Custom Solution - We proposed making a company logo out of acoustic panels to be mounted behind the manager's desk so it would be visible during video calls. The idea was met with great approval.

Execution

The project was implemented in two stages, according to the manager's schedule:

  1. First stage - repairs including soundproofing of the door, filling of the duct and correction of cracks.
  2. Second stage - installation of the acoustic panels on the walls and ceiling, including the custom logo of acoustic materials. The ceiling panels were white rectangles to fit discreetly into the interior without being visually intrusive.

Summary

The result was a completely successful resolution of the confidentiality problem and a significant improvement in the acoustic environment in the office. The client was extremely satisfied and later contacted us again for soundproofing of the conference room in the same building. We performed a similar process there, and the project was again successfully completed.

Materials used

    • Rubik Series Acoustic Panels with custom logo.
    • Noise seals and drop threshold for the door.
    • Acoustic wool and sound insulation boards for the duct.
    • Render and paint to correct structural imperfections.
